Are You a Pessimist or an Optimist (Part 2)

Are You an Optimist or a Pessimist Leader (Part 2)
Several years ago a bunch of my key leadership guys went to dinner and a movie. Don’t send me letters or emails.

I can’t remember what the movie was but I remember the event as if it was yesterday because the movie was in 3D.

We sat down to watch the previews with our 3D glasses but the image on the screen was blurry. I turned to one of my guys and he said it was blurry to him as well.

I got up determined to get this fixed. We paid good money for this movie and I wasn’t about to watch some blurry image.

The guy told me that he would adjust the projector, and I returned proud of myself, that I took care of this problem for my guys.

However, when I sat down, it was still blurry. I gave it five minutes and then I was ticked. I asked the guy in front of me if the screen was blurry to him, but he said it was fine. I decided I would go back to the manager and get this fixed.
I had the glasses from my staff member in my hand along with mine and was getting myself set to have a strong conversation with the manager about my displeasure. At the moment I put my hands on the door handle, I looked down and my staff members glasses said, 3D but mine said POLAROID. My set of 3D glasses were still in the wrapper in my shirt pocket. I had pulled my sunglasses down so that I was looking at the image on the screen through the wrong set of lens.

That is a great description of life. Depending on what lens I am looking through will determine how I view life and how I lead.

If the lens I look through is from the vantage point of a glass-half-empty — that will be my perspective. If I look at life through the lens of a pessimist, that is how I will live my life and lead.

Which lens are you looking through today? I will talk more about this in my next READ GROW LEAD blog. Stay tuned.
